They Don’t Speak For Us!!!

You are not going to believe this one.  Last night, Democrat strategist Hilary Rosen declared on Anderson 360 that Ann Romney can’t possibly know a thing about the economy because she hasn’t worked a day in her life.
Apparently, we are facing the same divisiveness we faced as working and stay-at-home moms four years ago.  Ann Romney raised five boys while facing the challenges of both MS and cancer.  As a stay-at-mom with three children of my own, I can honestly say that I don’t know how she did it.
Following the broadcast, Ann Romney made her Twitter debut tweeting in response to Rosen.  Mrs. Romney tweeted, “I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work.” Immediately, and in a bipartisan manner, women from across Twitter came to the defense of Mrs. Romney sharing their stories as moms and those of their own mothers.
The fallout was so immediate that even members of the Obama administration jumped to distance themselves from Rosen’s comments.  However, this is not the first time that women on the left have dismissed those of us who have chosen to put our careers aside to be with our children.  All women regardless of our personal choices should be applauded for our efforts.  We can no longer allow ourselves to be divided by those who devalue one choice over another.
If you are like us, tired of this ridiculous rhetoric, tell Hilary Rosen we support all women, not just those who are taxed for their hard work. The number of stay-at-home moms is increasing, and regardless of whether a women stays at home due to her own choice or jobless due to the current economic climate, women should defend each other’s abilities.
We said it last week and we will say it again:  They Don’t Speak For Us!!!  If you haven’t watched our new video that was launched last week, take a minute and watch it now.

Michael Grimm News Alert: Voting for the Pro-Jobs Act

Voting for the Pro-Jobs REINS Act

My vote for the REINS Act represents one of the very reasons I came to Congress: to fight for the return to small government. Our country has become over-burdened with Washington bureaucrats and ‘big-government’ regulations that have killed any opportunity for our economy and businesses to grow. In fact, these job-killing regulations have cost America’s employers roughly $1.75 trillion annually, and that’s unacceptable. The Obama Administration has proposed more than 200 new regulations this year alone, each of which cost our economy $100 million or more. The REINS Act targets these very rules, making them subject to Congressional approval before they can be implemented.

I have listened to the people of Staten Island and Brooklyn who constantly tell me that their top priority is jobs. More government does not create jobs, but by rolling back these onerous regulations, we can create a friendly environment for jobs.  I urge the Senate to act without delay on the REINS Act and on the 25 other House-passed jobs bills that it has yet to consider. The American people want to get back to work, and we can best help them do that by reining in these job-killing regulations that have kept Americans businesses from remaining competitive and creating much needed new jobs.

Supporting Legislation to Stop the Legal Sale of Dangerous Drugs in Brooklyn and Staten Island

This week, with my support, the House passed the Synthetic Drug Control Act, a bill that will help control the sale of dangerous synthetic drugs that mimic the hallucinogenic or stimulant properties of marijuana, cocaine, crystal meth, LSD, and other street drugs. They are often sold legally under the misnomers of bath salts and incense. The synthetic drug problem is of growing concern in Brooklyn and Staten Island, particularly as it grows in popularity among our youth. These substances are not only far too accessible in our communities, but are just as dangerous as the substances they mimic. I applaud the passage of the Synthetic Drug Control Act and urge its swift passage in the Senate, so that we can put an end to the sale of these dangerous substances once and for all.

Who’s Fighting for Staten Island Against the PANYNJ’s Outrageous Toll Hikes?

Earlier this week I took a strong stance against Governor Cuomo’s absence in the fight to save the residents and businesses of Staten Island from the hit of the PANYNJ’s outrageous toll hikes. Read my remarks here.  Thanks to the ongoing battle and the amicus brief I filed with Assemblywoman Malliotakis in support of the AAA lawsuit, we are making headway on the toll issue. However, we still have a lot of work to do and I will not give up the fight until relief is brought to the people and businesses of Staten Island.
